doughnutman 1 #1 Posted April 2, 2015 HI, I picked up a wheel horse a80 and proceeded to swap in a 8hp 319cc briggs. This is my first time swapping a lawn mower engine. All was going well until I wired it up. I used online video and a basic briggs wiring diagram to wiring it up. When I hooked the battery up I started to notice smoke coming from around the starter and top of engine. I quickly disconnected the battery. Now I wondering if I got it disconnected in time or do I need to pop the top and see what happened? Could I have fried the stator or starter? Also I had to cut off the push connector from the briggs because I did not have the other end. did I cut something important out? any help would be great thanks. WH nut 553 #2 Posted April 2, 2015 Letting the smoke out is never good. Open it up and see what you fried.
