Dhodge 528 #1 Posted April 1, 2015 What have some of you guys done to remedy the leaky two piece gas tanks on the early 60's model tractors with the cast aluminum tanks? I know there was service bulletins back in the day where they offered a tank kit which was installed inside the original tank. I wonder if there is anything available today that works well or what other engineering tactics have worked well for you guys.
rmaynard 16,293 #2 Posted April 1, 2015 Will a new gasket fix it? There's a guy on eBay who sells new gaskets for $15.00.
shallowwatersailor 3,214 #3 Posted April 1, 2015 I'm not familiar with those particular tanks, but companies like Eastman sell tank sealer kits which would save taking it apart. Some kits are better than others and $$$.

Racinbob 11,919 #7 Posted April 1, 2015 I used a new gasket on my 854 and I also used a tank sealer I found at a motorcycle shop.
Shuboxlover 480 #8 Posted April 2, 2015 I bought a new gasket for my 753 and it still seeped. Not until I talked to a buddy of mine who works at an aviation facility (Duncan) that I was able to get my hands on some epoxy to glue two pieces of aluminum together (like wings on an airplain) No more leakes for me
Live4outdoors 151 #9 Posted April 2, 2015 Yes the guy on ebay sells a great gasket that's held on mine perfectly...just follow his instructions for installation with sealant and you can keep the original look of the two piece, I also have a welded tank that works well, i just don't appreciate it cause it's not original. Dhodge 528 #10 Posted April 2, 2015 Thanks for all the replies guys. great ideas. Mine looks like it has a very slight crack wear it bolts to the steering tower. I have a place near me called gas tank renew. They have a great reputation and have been spraying a liner in car and truck tanks for years in my area. I have thought about taking 4 or 5 of my two piece gas tanks to them. Any thoughts?
Racinbob 11,919 #11 Posted April 2, 2015 (edited) Sure, that would be a fine idea. The do-it-yourself stuff does work well and it's very easy to do. Por-15 works great. Other brands can be found for less $$ and probably work fine but I can't vouch for them. Personally I'd also get a new gasket and then open up the tank for a good cleaning first and then seal.
