Racinbob 11,925 #2 Posted March 31, 2015 (edited) We need a little more information to help you out. A picture or two would do wonders. Even more, the model number off the tag. Edited March 31, 2015 by Racinbob
Freeze17 0 #3 Posted March 31, 2015 How about a 308-
tunahead72 2,543 #4 Posted March 31, 2015 Wrong kind of model number. Bob's talking about the model number that appears on the VIN plate on your tractor, which I believe is located on the rear fender, somewhere just below the seat. Your tag should show one of the following model numbers: 1986: 21-08K801 or 21-08K802 1987: 21-08K803 1988: 21-08K804 Your engine should also have a tag on the cooling tins, if it's original it will be a Kohler 8 HP Magnum, model M8S, spec. no. 301511. Your tractor should look like one of these (all have the fuel tank under the seat): or Photos will definitely help. And

can whlvr 994 #8 Posted April 2, 2015 308,s did not have tank under the seat, the tank was attached to the engine,at least that's how my 1986 308 was from the dealer when I bought it in 86 as stated it would be nice to get the model number but many are gone or unreadable.the 308 was an economy model, smaller tires,no height control for implements,no fuel tank under seat, the 1 inch axles and 4 pinion, but did have lights
tunahead72 2,543 #9 Posted April 2, 2015 308,s did not have tank under the seat, the tank was attached to the engine,at least that's how my 1986 308 was from the dealer when I bought it in 86... I don't know how to explain this . I've never owned a 308-8, so I got my information from a Parts & Service Manual (810405R1) that covers among other models the 1986 308-8 (21-08K801 & 21-08K802). This book shows the same fuel tank (106234) for all the 300 and 400 series tractors that year. On the other hand, I also have an Operator's Manual (810437R1) for that same year and group of tractors, which specifies a 1-1/4 gallon fuel tank for the 308-8, versus a 3-gallon tank for all the other models that year. I believe I've heard there were some production changes (and revised manuals) in 1986, maybe this was one of those things that changed. In any event, Don certainly knows his own machine better than I do.
Freeze17 0 #10 Posted April 3, 2015 ThAnks for the info I can not find any numbers on the tractor anywhere but I did notice that the motor does not line up with the frame holes so now I'm really confused might have a mix and match tractor once I get a manual I will know more
Sparky-(Admin) 23,147 #11 Posted April 3, 2015 All the 308's had a Magnum motor with a tank attached to the motor, there was not an under seat/fender fuel tank on this model. I suspect the Magnum motor was replaced with a motor without the attached fuel tank and someone added one under the seat/fender. That's the beauty of these tractors, so many parts from so many years will bolt right on! Mike...........
