Midwestlife 0 #1 Posted March 28, 2015 I have a c-120 that will fire right up and run for a hour or so before the points foul out. If I hit with sand paper they spark and it fires right back up. I took points out and cleaned them as well as engine where they mount to sustain better connection. This points failure or condenser? I will probably just buy both but wondering if maybe there is something I am missing.
groundhog47 347 #2 Posted March 28, 2015 (edited) to Bad condenser will cause pitting or no spark at all. Make sure your gasket around point cover is good and oil spray or debris not getting to contacts. Point plunger excessive leakage could also allow oil blow by but should be quite evident. Make sure ignition is indeed "off" as to voltage to point/coil/condenser. Did you clean point contacts after filing? Minute particles would be a prob if left in place. Please let us know what you find, thanks. Edited March 28, 2015 by groundhog47
rmaynard 16,211 #3 Posted March 28, 2015 If you have build-up on the points, it is usually from a bad condenser. Here is a drawing from the Kohler manual.
