Couple questions....

Recommended Posts

1. I see all kinds kinds of weird and cool implements on these WH's...I never see any pictures of a back blade in use. I have a Brinly scrape blade. Am I the only one?

2. Is there any practical reason to want a tractor with more HP then my 12 HP? I am not speaking to the whole tractor like say a 310 v a 416. I don't know all but I know there are other differences. I am speaking of HP only. Seems we should all be chasing fat heavy tractors not stronger ones.

3. Why does it seem all the WH's are in snow country? Maybe not all but much more then in the south.

thanks.

I have a 48" deck on a c-120 and I could use sum more HP if I don't keep the grass mowed short

(1) Rear dirt leveling and/or snow blades are more synonymous with 3 point hitches than non-3 point hitches that require manual lifts. That attachment you have isn't as rare as hens teeth but it isn't the most common attachment either.

(2) Horsepower is a very suggestive term in Garden Tractors just like horsepower is in a car or truck. Most humans always want the biggest/Best/More Powerful "stuff" in general. If you have a hydro tractor, you should have more HP due to the need for more power to turn the drivetrain PLUS push, pull, mow, plow. Have a 2-stage blower on a hydro? Better have the extra HP. Do you just need to mow or push a small plow? The single 8, 10, 12 and 14 HP Kohlers are more than adequate. Mow once every two weeks in the growing seasons? You better get more horse power. Mowing with the 48" and 60" decks? Better to have more HP. Have a BIG wide Plow? Better to have more HP. It really depends what you want to do with the machine.

(3) Until you even stated the fact you see more Toro/Wheelhorse in the snow states, I never thought about it. It may have more to do with where WH was born. In Indiana and 360 degrees around it, it's snow country. Farther west and to the south, there appears to really be less WH tractors. It may also have to do with the fact that Wheelhorse implements go on and off real easy compared to the machines of that era. In snow country, we use the tractors for mowing and blowing so it is a very important feature to be able to remove and switch implements verses JD, Cub, Simplicity, Case/IngersolRand, 'GOOD" old Sears Garden Tractors, Bolens, etc.

I never thought about snow blowing either. I don't think I have ever seen one in person. We get snow here and there but not that much and it doesn't last. I love snow. Wish I needed a snow blower. They look fun.

Trust me after the first 3 months the snow gets old add to that 10 below zero, 10mph winds and wind chill 25 below zero snow blowing ain't that much fun

I see these videos of guys driving their machines along long country driveways in heavy, beautiful snow and that seems like a cool experience. I know...all the people I know from NY always tell me I'd think different about snow if I HAD to deal with it just to do normal things.

Snow? Bah humbug!

Although I would rather mow grass, plow the earth, fly to mars, the Horses have never let me down when we had to push beautiful snow. Of course, chains 'n weights.

Mowing the lawn never a problem, riding seat time = easy mowing fun ride. Ask the grandsons!

Horse power? I think I can do all with the 12 hp Kohlers, my favorites. Manual trans too!   :)

PS. Lived in NC for four years. Never snowed at Camp Lejeune.
