Ed Kennell 41,414 #2 Posted March 24, 2015 Hi Dan... I don't have a 416-8, but there can be a number of problems. From a bad terminal connection to a bad alternator. To check the charging system, Measure the DC voltage across the low battery terminals without the tractor running. Then measure it with the tractor running at half throttle.. If the non running voltage is less than 12VDC, the running voltage should be more than 13VDC if the charging system is working. If the charging system is working , you may have a bad battery. If you have less than 13VDC, the charging system is not working. Common problems are corroded or broken connection, bad regulator, blown fuses, and bad ignition switch. You should go to the manual section and print out the wiring diagram for your tractor. There you can see what parts are involved in your charging circuit and begin the process of finding the problem.
