snowhound 106 #1 Posted March 23, 2015 A neighbor is considering getting a single stage tall chute blower to replace his short chute blower but is concerned that a tall chute single stage will clog up easier in wet snow than a short chute. Anyone have an opinion on which is better in wet snow . He is running a 416-8. He was talking about getting a two stage but I told him he might want to think about the weight of a two stage since he doesn't have a power lift. Ed
JackC 617 #2 Posted March 23, 2015 I personally have not used it but some highly recommend a product called SNO-JET to coat the innards of the blower and chute to prevent clogging. That product may alleviate the clogging fears of a tall chute in wet snow. I plan to try some soon since I still have some wet snow to remove with my single stage tall shoot that was clogging up on me.
doc724 925 #3 Posted March 23, 2015 Ed, my tall chute single stage blower worked great when the snow was dry. There was one day when it snowed a couple of inches and I got lazy and did not remove it, hoping it would melt. It was not melting fast enough and we were headed to single digits the next several days so I got out to blow the now very wet snow away. Plugged my tall chute solid even with Sno Jet. I ended up using the blower as a plow and shoveled the slop at the end of the driveway. I do not have any experience with the short chute blowers.
rexman72 210 #4 Posted March 24, 2015 I have owned both a short chute and I have a tall chute. The tall works better for me then the short chute. It threw the snow farther. Both seemed to bog down on the heavy wet snow that we get.
boovuc 1,090 #5 Posted March 24, 2015 I've had both and in very heavy wet snow, the tall chute would plug occasionally and normally it was wet snow that was already disturbed. (compressed). In very heavy wet snow, the short chute wouldn't blow it more than three feet. My tall chute just seems to throw the snow better and the tall chute didn't coat me in snow "as much" as the short chute. To all the members who have never tried both kinds of blowers, remember this............"it is NOT better to have loved a short chute without ever having loved a tall"
WH nut 553 #6 Posted March 24, 2015 I have always used a short chute and cant justify the expense of a tall chute
