wheels for my 416

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if there are any preferred places to find wheels for a 416-8 out there, and if there are any aftermarket wheels with the same hole pattern but different dimensions that any of you pros have come across.

I'm assuming your talking about rear wheels. I'm pretty sure most GT rears have the same bolt pattern (if they're 5 bolt). The offset is what you have to watch for (inside of wheel).

Are you looking for a special wheel? If you just want wider, then 520's and a few others came with an 8.5" wheel standard vs the 7.5" on everything else. Best place to obtain these is by posting a wanted ad or talking with our used parts vendors like Kelly, daveoman, and Joes outdoor power on ebay.

But like Irv said, many GT's have the same bolt pattern you just have to watch out for offset.

What exactly is a GT. Just got my 416-8 and all numbers say it was made in '87. I thought GT's were earlier. I guess I need to pull a wheel and do some measuring. Don't think wheels are original to tractor. Tires say 22x9.5-12. Doesnt seem right. All the wheels are silver and fronts don't have holes for weights

Sorry, Garden Tractor.

:)

There is a GT 14 in the line and there are some GT's in the workhorse lineup as well, but in the context above, just garden tractor.

And original tires I believe are 23x9.5-12 or 23x8.5-12 and 520H's had 23x10.5-12's.

(there are some variations to that, but its a good generalization.) So it does look like at least your tires and front wheels were probably replaced. Silver, however, is the correct color for the 300,400,500 series tractors.

I put the wider wheels and the 10.5 tires on the rear of my 416-8. I can't run them with my 42" S.D. deck the tires interfere with the deck wheels.

They should work just fine, you have the same frame/transmission/setup as a 520. I would check to make sure that the outside of your hubs are flush with the ends of the axles and that you have wheels made for WH with the correct offset (and that they are put on the right way around, valve stem should be on the inside). You should be able to run any deck from a 520 except a 37" (need smaller front wheels for that one).

It's the deck, I don't heat too much about people running a 42" on a 520. Their would be no problem with a 48, the wheels are off a 520 HC.

I have heard of people having problems running a 42" deck on a 520.  Apparently the deck wheels and the rear wheels interfere with each other?  I have not verified the issue on my own.  The sales brochures list the 42" rear discharge deck as an option but not the 42" side discharge deck.

some 42" decks will interfere with the rear wheels on a 520 but not all, there are some that will work haven't been able to figure the difference, i think that the later years make a difference, like late 90's
