drive belt and mower deck spec and length

Recommended Posts

Team,

Couple questions for the experts, 1) I have a C161 wheel horse  I just refurbished and in need of a new drive belt, where can I get the spec, including length?  2) I found a used 48 inch lawn mower deck for my machine, threw away the old 42 rusted relic , same question, how do I determine length and spec.

3) one more question, maybe not for this thread, but will give it a run....deck was properly aligned, blades new and the cut was not clean, as though the rpm was too low. Not really keen on running full throttle to get a good cut, any recommendations?  I heard 2 blades for each spindle???

Thanks for taking your time and responding.

I will probably get in trouble for this...but in my experience I never thought much of the grass cutting of a wheel horse....I know  I know..... :hide:    The only way I found to make it work was high rpm's  and fairly fast ground speed.   I have had side discharge and rear discharge horses.   I love my wheel horses in every other respect but I mow with a green machine with a 54 inch deck,  no scalping, no clumping.

One more point, mowing at full throttle is good for a few different reasons,  High blade speed=less clumping=less clogging keeps the deck cleaner.  The engine oil gets slung or pumped around more and best of all the flywheel fan moves the most air across the engine at full throttle.   Full throttle also can actually decrease the load on the engine.

It wont hurt to use the governor!      I am not saying to always run the tractor wide open but when mowing I think it is best. :twocents-twocents:

Find your tractor's model number in this chart for the drive belt part number. The belt dimensions are on the last pages

Do the same for the mower deck

Sharp and balanced rotary mower blades are designed to cut with a blade tip speed of 19,000 feet per minute.

:text-yeahthat:  Yep, you should definitely be running at full throttle (3600 rpm) that's what the blades, and engine were designed to run at.

Thanks for all the help and reference to the manuals, only issue is the 48 inch deck I am refurbishing no longer has its markings on and is impossible to determine the model number.  Are there some visual characteristics of the deck that could allow model number determination?
