greenb69 1 #1 Posted February 20, 2015 12 years ago I purchased a C-121 hydro, 12 horse Kohler and in great condition. I used it for everything. A few years later I found a complete but short, engine and wheels, wiring and very rusty C-160 . It had the 8 speed so I put the 160 away but used the 8 speed to convert my C-121 over. I am going to restore the 121 and put the hydro back in it. The hydro unit has been sitting for a long time. What should I do to make it ready for use and before I took it out I recall that when sitting still the gt would always creep forward or back. Is there an adjustment for centering the drive or is this normal. I am sure that I will have many questions as I bring this jewel back to its old glory. Oh yeah, what color red are they painted? Thanks Fred
KC9KAS 4,744 #2 Posted February 20, 2015 (edited) There are MANY, MANY posts about paint color. The best color is what you like! Do a search for "Paint color" and see what shows up. Check this out I think most folks use Rustolium Regal Red or Sunrise Red. I know I have opened a "can of worms", but that is the way it goes!! (I use the Regal Red) Edited February 20, 2015 by KC9KAS
greenb69 1 #3 Posted February 21, 2015 Thank you very much for your reply. I will make note of the paint mentioned on the post you provided. I am very excited to get stafted on the restore and will make to to photograph my progress.
daveoman1966 3,839 #4 Posted February 21, 2015 Before you mount the Sundstrand hyd power unit (90-1172) back onto the C-121, you should inspect the internals of the PUMP and the MOTOR for wear. If the brass surfaces of the 9 slippers (18 total) are worn or scratched at all, your tractor's power will exhibit progressive power loss. There are other sensitive machine-face surfaces that need exam too...not just the pistons. Here is an example of what you are likely to find in the pump...nearly identical parts in the motor section. If yours look anything like these, consider rebuild. For more info or pics, contact me here: daveoman@windstream.net
