muz123 1,192 #1 Posted February 18, 2015 My 212-6 has a hard time starting. it makes a number of clicking times before it turns over and starts up. I think its a solenoid, what do you guys think? Thanks, dave
Sparky-(Admin) 23,145 #2 Posted February 18, 2015 The click you hear is the solenoid so if it clicks everytime you hit the key then the solenoid and keyswitch are probably fine. Before you start buying parts I would take all the connections at the starter and solenoid and clean em up with some emery cloth or sandpaper and remake them all. JackC 617 #4 Posted February 18, 2015 It could be a weak battery or bad connections. Make sure the battery is fully charged and ideally measures about 12.5 volts. Also clean all connections with emery cloth or a file. Yes it could be a solenoid but check the battery and connections first. You can jump the battery directly to the starter to try to bypass and isolate faulty components or connections. You can also use an ohm meter to try to identify faulty connections that show resistance and to check the solenoid and the key switch.
bmsgaffer 2,053 #5 Posted February 18, 2015 Fully charged battery is about 12.7v at rest. 12.5 is about 80%, so every small tenth is very valuable!
