realsquash 0 #1 Posted October 27, 2008 My dad and I plowed up a bit under an acre of former pasture on my property yesterday. He's a Cub Cadet guy, I've got a couple Wheel Horses. This time I was plowing with my C-105. Amazingly 10HP was never an issue. A few times I plowed in 3rd/hi, too! It was scary but it worked! We're going down to the plowday on Nov 1st at Roanoke, IL so we needed to shine up the plows. I need a disk badly! It would take forever to get this plot done with a little 32" disk but how much could I pull? My other WH is a 520H but it's a hydro and it's not as much fun in the dirt. wh500special 2,267 #2 Posted October 27, 2008 Roanoke, huh? My wife's 1st college roommate was from right next door in Bentson. Her dad was a farmer, but used green tractors. Welcome to RS. Steve
CasualObserver 3,411 #3 Posted October 27, 2008 I used to live about 10 miles south of where you'll be plowing. I think we need to start getting more WH folks involved in plowdays. It seems to be pretty much a JD/IHCC thing, but they always say everyone is welcome. If I still lived back in IL, I'd be there! Have fun! :banghead:

I did see one WH at a largely CC plow day in Rochelle, IL a couple years ago but that was it. Andy

BPjunk 184 #8 Posted October 27, 2008 I need a disk badly! It would take forever to get this plot done with a little 32" disk but how much could I pull? Andy, Unfortunatly Wheel Horse did not make a disc wider then 32 inches BUT they did make a double disc set up, these were one set of disc behind the other. The TDH-163 tamdem disc is quite rare today and in the early 60's could only be pulled by the big model 953/1054. Wild Bill in Richmond, Va.
MaineDad 87 #9 Posted October 27, 2008 Andy, Welcome. You could always find a larger disc harrow and just pull it around instead of having to lift it after each pass like the picture below; These garden tractors can pull really well. I would try to find an old Farmall Cub disc harrow or something similiar.
big mike 13 #10 Posted October 28, 2008 Come on Red guys let's plow! There aren't a lot of Cub guys around my neck of the woods and a fall plow day would be fun.I cannot make Bluniers(Roanoke) this year but want to badly sometime. There has to be someone with a good sized garden or a small farm field we could plow.Don't think that you need monster HP either, I can plow all day long with a 7hp,8" plow and 6-12 ags without batting an eye. Nick 13 #13 Posted October 28, 2008 That disc and tractor looks like Farmerik in CT. Use to see him on the Yahoo group but dont think he has been around for a long time. Despite this its an excellent site, thanks for the link!
realsquash 0 #15 Posted October 29, 2008 I've been looking for a decent old disk to modify but I just can't find one in decent shape. I would like to build one from scratch but even just the new discs are expensive at a place like TSC. Andy

realsquash 0 #22 Posted November 3, 2008 You bet, that's me! The tractor did awesome and I was able to plow all day. They said that field we plowed was 37 acres! I was able to plow 1/2 - 3/4 throttle in 2nd/hi all day long. I did a stretch in 3rd/hi just for kicks and it worked but ran out of power in the packed part of the field. I was having trouble with it popping out of 2nd gear a couple times so I'll have to look into that. It was doing it before I went down there so it didn't cause any damage. There was another WH there, a C160 I believe. It was owned/restored by a local guy who doesn't "do" the internet, Dave Dirkson. After all of this plowing I have to say, I think running 23x8.50-12 on the right side and a 23x10.50-12 on the left would be perfect for plowing. The 10.50s are too wide to really fit into the furrow well. Andy
