Will this fit/work 8 Speed questions

Hello All,

I was looking at my broken in half 1054 transaxle and it looks like the right side transaxle case half maybe the only part I need. Of course the rest of the transmission will have to be torn down--but I was wonderig if a right hand case half off of an 1 1/8" Eight Speed would bolt up to the 1054's left case and get me back in business? The left hand case has the brake drum placement etc... so it is the critical side. I guess if the input shaft is in the same spot and the bearings are the same size/locations it should be simple right???? Can anybody tell me if I'm barking up the wrong tree... or does anybody have a wrecked 953/1054 transmission that can donate its case?

Tony

According to the parts lists, part # 4160 RH Trans case is only used in the 953/1054/1054A. Maybe someone can come up with a side by side comparison for you. I would say if you have one laying around, can't hurt to dry fit it and see what you think.

I cant say what they used but I had a 1054 with non-matching case halves. The parts didnt line just right so my brother had to shim things when he repaired it for me. Didnt have any problems while I had it but was worried things might come apart someday. :banghead:

The only thing that comes to my mind is...I thought the 8 speeds used a smaller input shaft than the 3 speeds?

I really haven't tore into many trans cases...the common ones that I use are plentifull enough to replace.

I do have a 953 here with a sick trans I need to jump into though.

I've always wondered if an 8 speed could be used in a 953/1054 with an axle swap & redrill the case & tap the holes to fit the frame?

Tony good luck with your rebuild/repair & if you can get some pics on here of your trans work.
