zanepetty 117 #1 Posted February 3, 2015 (edited) What material is the oil pan made out of on a k161? I'm putting a little 90 degree elbow fitting in it for easy drainage and don't want to strip it out. It's not very tight right now but trying to get one more turn on it seems pretty hard so I quit.. Should I just turn it on around? Edited February 3, 2015 by zanepetty

Fordiesel69 271 #3 Posted February 3, 2015 Cast iron. Use a brass fitting and you will be safter.
zanepetty 117 #4 Posted February 3, 2015 I just changed the oil last night. Should I just drain it back out and find a brass fitting?
pacer 3,177 #5 Posted February 3, 2015 Hopefully not ... Your description of being a bit loose - loose one direction and too tight the other - is common with this, and all too often you will have a seeping leak. I do like/prefer a brass fitting, but if its not convenient to get one I will use a common pipe nipple -- but, I will use a healthy wrapping of teflon tape on it to prevent that seeping. Try running yours a while and see if you get this seeping around it, you may be lucky and not have one,
zanepetty 117 #6 Posted February 3, 2015 So in that case the best thing to do is to leave it in the loose position?
Racinbob 11,978 #7 Posted February 3, 2015 (edited) You want to get it tight or it will seep....or flat out leak. Brass fittings are fine and normally don't need teflon tape or sealant but that is only when you have a brass to brass connection. Of course that's not possible on your motor. I have found that a quality thread sealant works better than teflon tape in this type of situation. I really like Loctite 592. You will need to drain the oil and clean the threads good though. Fordiesel69 271 #8 Posted February 4, 2015 +2 on the Loctite 592 I have used it on turbo oil supply lines that were stubborn.
