Moment of silence for a fallen tractor

Recommended Posts

Sparky

Hey guys.

My neighbor Tony ( docwheelhorse) has lost a 1054 today to a falling tree. The 1054 has a trailer with old pallets in it that were being brought up to the road to get loaded for a dump run so it was still earning its keep up till now.

It was parked in the woods behind his house waiting to move the next load of pallets when it was hit. No one was on it or even near it when it happened. Thats the only good news here.

I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story.

Mike...............

:banghead: This couldnt have been revenge for some incriminating photo's being circulated recently, could it?

You know like the guy waking up with a horse head in his bed in "The Godfather"?

I smell conspiracy here...

Too sad. Is it salvagable? I know the pics look bad but maybe its better in real life.

No revenge here. I assume you mean the shots of me on the Craftsman :USA: .

This one totally sucks for Tony.

Well the front axle on one side snapped right off. The other side didnt snap off but the spindle is twisted in a way that a spindle should never be twisted. The steering arm is bent.

The rear axle which is only used on these tractors (953/1054) is busted wide open. The hood is crushed and the starter gen has taken a hit. There is oil coming out of one side of the motor but I cant say for sure why.

I bet the frame is bent up front and that to bust the rear axle that any tranny mounts are wrecked. The seat is wasted as well.

We're lucky that we are paying our respects to a tractor instead of a RS member right now.

Sorry if my above comments seemed flippant, I hate to see one go as much as anyone

Okay Everybody....

I did ask Sparky to post this as I just didn't want to even look at it. I realize it is an inanimate object but it was the saddest thing I have seen in awhile. This tractor is "hurt" really bad and may in fact be totaled. I called Jeff Coffman (Wheelhorsec85)and have purchased two 1054's that he has stripped for parts ($80 for the pair)--I had looked at them before but didn't think I needed them or wanted more junk around my place. Neither has a transaxle and I think only one has a motor. This tractor WILL NOT die, I will do everything in my power with all of my spare parts and my spare transaxles to bring this back from the dead. I view this as an insult and am taking it personally. Yes I have too many projects, yes I could walk away from it and take the loss. But I won't, this tractor has been displayed in two fairs and my kids have driven it around my yard. My daughter was sad to hear it was "squished"--how else do you tell a 5 year old. She has more seat time on this tractor than even me!! I don't know how long it will take---but if I can find the time it will be repaired and will be brought to next years show. MARK MY WORDS BETSY THE 1054 WILL RUN AGAIN!

Tony

Glad no one was injured. My uncle who cut down trees for 35 years lost his life by a tree that came down the wrong way and snapped his neck so it could have been worse.

Sorry about your Uncle, this tree came down with only the assistance of a gust of wind. There wasn't a chain saw within a mile of it. It looked healthy too. It snapped off about 15 feet up from the trunk.... I am glad nobody was hurt, I just wished it could have been one of my more common tractors that wouldn't of hurt so much. A tree falling on a 300 wouldn't bother me nearly as much....

Thanks everybody and thanks Sarge... where r u located out of curiosity.

Remember--a Wheel Horse is truly never dead....as long as tools, parts and spirit are available they will all continue to fight on. Why couldn't this have happened to a JD or a Cub... :banghead:

Sorry to hear / see that, Tony. :banghead:

I don't have any 1054 parts on my pile, but I'll keep my eyes open.

Just remember you HAVE to cut that tree up and burn it now..... even if you don't have a wood stove!

Boy this is a shame! At least no one was hurt. :banghead: But now back to the dilema at hand. Restoring 1054 with this kind of injury is going to take bit of time and conecctions for parts. I have found at least one add for compete tractor that could be a parts donor. Below is the link to the add. Another link is for the front axle listed on Eb@y. This part is at Joes Out Door Sho and maybe he will have additional parts needed for this restoration? Maybe this will help?
