Picked up and rj 58 I believe and I'd like to know what fluid and I see there is a fill at the top of the tranny and on the right side there's a plug at the bottom. Where is the level screw that tells you its full ? Or is it measured?

There is no level check. 80W-90 gear oil and if I remember correctly quart and a half.

I believe that plug on the side is the level. Get it sitting on flat ground and remove and see if anything comes out, if it does it should be good, otherwise fill until it runs out. To drain, you just remove one of the lower side plate bolts.

The oil level should be just above the drain hole.

Removing one of the side bolts is just asking for a weapage leak. If it isn't leaking leave the bolts alone.

Vin I agree it don't leak so what I'm going to dons pull the side plug let it drain I have a oil suction tool I'll suck whatever out then I'll put 80 90w gear oil in it till it comes out the side drain plug it then put a little more as I measure how much input in it also like a quart to a quart and a half correct . That way it ends up right above the plug line
