MAH 50 #1 Posted January 18, 2015 I recently acquired a '66 1056 with a 42"deck, snow blower and plow. I believe the engine has been replaced at sometime because it is yellow. The belt covers are missing, and the forward bits to attach the snow blower are not with the tractor. Does anyone know where I would be able to get the attaching pieces for the blower and the covers? Also the engine smokes but rings seem to be a common issue with these older kholer engines, other than that it seems to run smooth. The sheet metal seems straight and a nice coat of paint and new decals should make this horse shine again as a grandfather, father, son project.
Live4outdoors 151 #2 Posted January 18, 2015 Let's see some pictures. For the parts you need I've had great luck in the wanted section of this forum. And welcome, nice to see someone close to me!
MAH 50 #3 Posted January 18, 2015 We just picked it up tonight and everything is still on the trailer. It was late when we got back so pictures will come as soon as I can. I had to chuckle when I saw the cigar lighter. Now I can charge my cell phone while on the tractor .
RedRanger 1,469 #4 Posted January 18, 2015 Welcome to the site MAH. There are a few guys on here that sell salvage parts as well as your local CraigsList will probably have ads for guys parting out tractors. Waiting for pics. The late 60's models are my favorite. boovuc 1,090 #6 Posted January 18, 2015 Greetings from about 1.5 hours north of you! K series Kohlers run for thousands of hours if maintained properly without smoking. (too much). It sounds like a great find but you know what we always want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MAH 50 #8 Posted January 18, 2015 OK OK, you guys are restless on pictures . I understand and finally got them taken. I think the engine is out of a cub cadet although it is the correct model engine. The engine tag is on the side and not the front of the engine and there isn't any holes for the gen belt cover. I noticed two holes in the front of the hood. I assume this may have had a headlight conversion on it at one time. Personal preference is without so they may get filled during restoration. Although they may come in handy plowing at night but there's still time to think about that. Now to clean the garage to make room for the new project. And there is a 518H on it's way as a temp so there's no hurry for this winter project.
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #9 Posted January 18, 2015 Nice 1056! The engine is definitely not CC, but I'm (99%) sure it came from a Minneapolis Moline 110 garden tractor. It looks like the thrower mounting stuff is all there to me.
MAH 50 #10 Posted January 18, 2015 I'm not real familiar with the older horses but shouldn't there be a mounting bracket for the front? Maybe if I saw an install guide that would make it a little clearer. Thanks for the engine info that will probably come in handy. Would I be able to swap the engine side covers and make it work or would swapping in an original engine be a recommendation in the future? Like I said it does smoke but I suspect just rings. I will paint it red and make it work for now as this will be a nice working tractor when finished. I'm not real familiar with the older horses but shouldn't there be a mounting bracket for the front? TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #11 Posted January 18, 2015 No mounting bracket (Attach-Matic hitch) before mid 1972. The long bolt simply passes through the forward-most hole in the side of the tractor frame. The shouldered bushing goes between the tractor frame and the thrower mount on each side.
MAH 50 #12 Posted January 18, 2015 Thanks TT!! I'm heading over to my dads to help him unload a 518H. I'll look at it when I get over there.
