Retired Wrencher 5,770 #1 Posted January 17, 2015 I have a k181 it was running 2 weeks ago. I took it off to tighten up the inlet valve that was leaking. I think I have a bad fuel pump I have tried every thing to get fuel to the carb. it sounds like it is working and it is on the cam. If any one has info or a spare that I can buy or try so I can find out this problem. Thanks for your efforts.
rmaynard 16,292 #2 Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) Have you tried turning the starter with the hose/line from the pump to the carburetor disconnected to see what kind of flow if any you have? If there is none, take the pump apart and see what the problem is. There are only 3 moving parts in the pump, the diaphragm, and two little spring-loaded discs that operate as one-way valves. If debris gets lodged behind one of the discs, it keeps the fuel from pumping. If the diaphragm is torn, you will get no pumping. Aftermarket rebuild kits are available, I personally don't like the ones I've tried. I'd search eBay for a new or good used replacement. Gary L. 12 #3 Posted January 17, 2015 T1257 I have a Commando 8 with a K181 that also had a bad fuel pump and didn't like the new plastic ones they now have with snap in fittings so I installed an electric pump under the fuel tank mount.

A friend told me about taking off the pump and sticking the inlet side in some fuel and pump 20 time if no fuel it is bad. can u still rebuild these pumps.
