Could that have broken something? I can't see you would of broken both con rods by doing that!! If a con rod was broken you would of heard it hitting things inside the engine case.. JackC 617 #29 Posted February 21, 2015 I bought a low hour 417A with a Kohler KT17 Series II for $250. The deck alone was worth $250. The PO said there was no spark and the shop he took it to told him the stater was bad. After I found and fixed a bad connection to the condenser it started right up. If your engine ran before monkeying with it then the engine internals are probably fine. The symptoms you describe are typical for when there is a weak battery or bad connection or both. steve k 82 #30 Posted February 23, 2015 (edited) Your con rods are not broken...... what is the voltage across the battery terminals while key is off? 12.7= full battery 12.5 still ok 12.0 or lower= not enough either charge battery or jump it from another. It probably is the starter however, pull it off and inspect it, clean and either test yourself with jumper cables or take it to an auto parts store to have it tested. In post thirteen you said voltage drop across battery terminals was .5 volts while cranking. First, if the voltage is .5 while attempting to crank that is BAD. battery is shot.
