Just browsing the newer Toro WH models on CL and have a question.

What is the difference between the LXI and the XI?

Does the L stand for Liquid cooled?

Just guessing here.

Yes it is a liquid cooled Kawasaki and XI is an air cooled Kohler. The DXI is a diesel produced by Briggs and Stratton and Diahatsu.

Jack, if you never had. The xi is quite a machine. A whole differant beast. Trust me.

Problems with warped heads are common on Kawi liquid cooled engines. I'm @ 1100 hours and going strong on my Xi. They're pretty awesome.

Not a problem Jack!

We have (2) 518 xi's and (1) 522 xi.  The 518's are nice but you just can't beat the power steering on the 522.

Plus these machines with attachments come in weighing around 1,000 lbs and make pushing snow a ton of fun!  The only drawbacks that I hear of people complaining about is that they have no 3 point, no locking differential, and come equipped with the "Smart Steer" technology.  The "Smart Steer" can be bypassed and/or a kit can be purchased from Toro to disenable the feature.

Not a huge fan of new equipment, but these are very nice to say the least!

I own a 520Lxi and I will tell you, it's a great machine. My parents owns a 416-H and they have tried to trade me theirs for mine. They like the ride, power steering and quietness this one has compared to theirs. I will tell you that the Lxi models initially came with a plastic cam gear, if hasn't been replaced for the steel one, that will have to be done around 1000 hours or you'll have a mess in the engine. Other then that, these are amazing machines and I wouldn't trade mine for anything else; well maybe a newer model year of an Lxi, but I'd even have a hard time doing that.
