snowhound 106 #1 Posted January 10, 2015 I'm looking at a CL listing for a GT-1848 that states the tractor was loaned to a neighbor and when it was returned it ran poorly maybe on one cylinder, it was put in the garage and has been sitting there for a number of years. They are asking $350 which I feel is high. No attachments come with the tractor. I would like to get a feeling for how much others would offer, in the photos the tractor looks to be in good shape, paint and seat in good shape. Ed
oldredrider 2,553 #2 Posted January 10, 2015 Asking price is not always the selling price. What is it worth to you and how are your negotiating skills? It IS a good tractor. Go look at it...could very well be worth your time.
Tankman 3,523 #3 Posted January 10, 2015 Go take a peak-a-boo at the poor Horse. If you have the ambition and time to fix the poor Stallion, make an offer. The Horse is worth nada, zip, nothing to the current owner. Offer him a "low" dollar.
wheel-mule 46 #4 Posted January 10, 2015 I gave $350 for one that was/is non running.Paint not in great shape but has a good 48" deck.Great tractors,it does deserve to be looked at,try to get it for less if you like but price is not everything.Parts for the B&S engine are cheaper than for a Kohler. If you get it and find out what is wrong with the engine I'd give you a quote on parts.I'd be interested in looking at it if it were closer to me. ericj 1,579 #5 Posted January 10, 2015 (edited) tell him if the tractor was running it would be worth the asking price but if the motor is bad it could get expensive and try to negotiate a lower price if the paint is good and the seat is good you have to figure out what all the parts would be worth and come at it from that point of view good luck and eric j Edited January 10, 2015 by ericj
rustyoldjunk 127 #6 Posted January 10, 2015 Being a hydro, hydraulic lift tractor with the heavier rear (1 1/8th axles,8 pinion differential) and a rarer grey version make it a more sought after model. You won't know if the engine is toast or a easy fix until you take a look.
baerpath 517 #7 Posted January 10, 2015 If it was closer I'd offer $200 and see. But then I have 3 briggs twins sitting
