Too much traction

Recommended Posts

bell

Last night, I fired up the 855 to move my dad's Suzuki Samurai into the garage... I hooked up the tow strap and eased the clutch out and POP..... I guess too much traction can be a bad thing... :banghead:

Jon,

Take a good look at the key way and woodruff key to see if they are worn. No way should have pulling a light weight vehical like that make the axle hub break.

Well on the other hand like the one comedian use to say ........ "Just how big a boy are you?" :banghead:

I would have to agree with Wild Bill, I have pulled a 1 ton van up my drive and pulled bushes out of the ground that went to china. I have never seen anything like that. I have sheared the key and even worn an axle because of the key. But never broken a hub. :banghead: I hope your axle Ok?

Maybe there was already a small crack in the casting from quite a while ago and the crack propogated from there and suddenly broke. You can sometimes see a rusty bit of crack where it started from.Or maybe the fixing bolt had been done up far to tight, or a faulty casting from new. You probobly may never know what caused it.

Maybe forgot to take the parking brake off on the Suzuki???? :USA::banghead:

Good luck fixing. You should be able to find another hub rather easily.

Yeah, I may have tightened the hubs a little much... :banghead:

I figure that is what caused it...

I have another set of hubs, these are pretty worn anyhow... Just thought y'all might like to see some off road carnage. :USA:

I would drill/tap a second set screw hole 90 degrees from the first and put it back together. I have had trouble with the old worn single set screw hubs and found that converting them to dual set screws helped alot plus saved a set of otherwise junk hubs.
