BDJudy 4 #1 Posted January 3, 2015 I have a 69 Charger 10 with a HH100 tecumseh. I have replaced the starter and battery. And am having trouble cranking the dang thing over. Starter solenoid has no voltage drop. All connections have low resistance, have redone most connections to ensure that. The ground is good all over. everything checks out. There is no charging system but she starts reliably for 2-3 months (2-3 times per week)at a time before I have to put her on an battery charger..even in the winter. It is normal Lawn and Garden Battery about 300Ca Can you turn the motor over by hand or is there a lot of resistance. could be starter motor issue...load test on the new battery?? clem 28 #5 Posted January 4, 2015 I have seen too tight gear mesh put a heavy load on the starter/battery. It's kind of rare and usually won't disengage properly also, but it's easy to check. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

KATO 115 #11 Posted January 13, 2015 Your HH100 does have ACR... it is on the cam shaft. Your starter MAY just need a brush plate... they are available I have replaced a few ,both 120 volt and 12 volt ,it can make a huge difference Depending on starter model there are many on E-BAY now ...just type in TECUMSEH STARTER BRUSH PLATE Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
BDJudy 4 #12 Posted January 20, 2015 I finally figured it out! After checking and rechecking everything on the horse, I finally took the rear off the brand new starter to look at brushes and noticed the ring terminals for the "ground" brushes were loose as heck. I tightened the rods towards the drive side to secure the terminals and reassembled the starter works like a dang new one should!
