Wheelie horse 90 #1 Posted January 3, 2015 I have a 416 with an onan and it has 774 hours and was wondering if I should be slowing down on using it to keep the house off because I don't know how long the onan will run
Vinylguy 4,666 #2 Posted January 3, 2015 Regular maintenance on onans is very important and keep the engine clean so it cools properly. Have seen many good runners with well over 2000 hours.
rick 216 #3 Posted January 3, 2015 It's up to you, but I bought mine to use. Take care of it and it will last a long time. Get the manuals, use the best filters and oils, and service it regularly!
KyBlue 652 #4 Posted January 3, 2015 (edited) and by servicing it, that means pulling the tins and cleaning all those cooling fins that you can't get to with the engine in place.. Edited January 3, 2015 by KyBlue
Forest Road 594 #5 Posted January 3, 2015 We rarely hear of 16hp Onans failing. Its usually he 20hp They seem to throw valve seats at 500 and 2000 hours. No rhyme or reason as to why or when. Those same motors go 2000+ in welding and generator rigs. Just maintain it and enjoy. Besides what's the point of having a horse if you're gonna keep it in the stall?
