rustyoldjunk 127 #26 Posted January 1, 2015 Thanks k2wilson. Ironman no issues to my knowledge,a lot of companies and models used the Ross box. From what I have read Wheel Horse switched because they couldn't get enough Ross steering boxes to keep up with production. As for the spindles,I would say no because the ones on this tractor look fine after 50 plus years but this is the first 953 that I recall ever seeing with this style of spindle so I really don't know.
953 nut 59,885 #27 Posted January 2, 2015 Very nice 953 Rusty! I just made a deal on 2 953's today, but need to take a road trip to pick them up. By any chance could you tell me what the length and width measurements are? Naturally I want to buy enough up there to come home with a full trailer...lol Got out to the barn today, the 953 measures 70" long, 36 1/2" rear width and 33" front width. I think it is about 650 to 700 pounds if I remember right. Happy Trails bringing back a few new members of the herd.
Ironman 115 #28 Posted January 2, 2015 Wow! They're bigger than I thought!!! I think on that trip I'll just stick with the 2 953's. Another deal I just couldn't pass up was the D-250 I'm picking up on Saturday. After these I think I'd better stop hoarding and start working on them. Question, How do you determine which ones to leave in their original patina and which ones to paint?
