Question About 1067

Thinking about putting a plow on my 1067 for the winter. Does anyone know if it has a conventional rear or does it have positraction ? I know it was the first year for the two speed rear - high and low range. Ray

I'm not positive about this, but I think it was a new feature for 1968. If you look at the 1968 brochure in the literature gallery

( http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?showtopic=1072 ) The bottom of the pages for the Raiders have a little blue box showing a basic diagram of the limited slip idea. It says "New Transpower Differential", but I don't know if it was also used in any 1967 models or not.

I've looked at the manuals for both the 1067 and the Raider 9, and according to them, both tractors used the 5060 tranny, so you're 1067 probably has the limited slip, IF the tranny is original.

Thanks Jason. I believe the tranny is original. I wonder if by jacking it up and spinning the rear wheel and the other spins the same direction would that consider it a limited slip. I'll have to try it and see what happens. Thanks again for the info.

In the year 1967 the Wheel Horse models 867, 1067 and 1267 all came with the Uni-Drive model 5060 which incorporated a 10 pinion differential of which had a cylindrical spring to push against the pinion gears to make a positraction differential. :omg: The spring would allow enough slippage for turning of the rear wheels at different speeds when turning but under a hard pull would spin both rear wheels equaly. :banghead:

Unfortunately over time the spring and pinion would get worn or the spring will break.

I had a tech session at the Annual Wheel Horse Show on rebuilding a model 5060 and show people that when the differential was put back together a person could not hold one axle and turn the other ..... it is a strong spring! :USA:

Thanks for the info Bill. Learn something new everyday. Wish I would have been at that tech session.

Eldon has one of Bill's tech videos on one of the transmissions on his website. I'm not sure which transmission, but you can go here: http://wh.classickitchensandmore.com/Riding%20Horseback/

I'm not sure which video of the two it is, but's it's one of them I believe. They take a while to load.

So, the 1277's hydro diff wasn't the same, then?? The drawings I have show a strange 2 pinion design, similar to some cars ....I gotta get time to get it apart and look for sure .
