I removed the broken under seat safety switch and wired the two wires together and did the same with the switch wires on the  switch  under  the shift cover plate,( along the frame rail ) when I bought the tractor it would start using the key switch, after removing the busted up plastic fender and freshening it up with a metal one bought from kelly ( nothing to do with it not starting )  I went out to start it,  I had nothing so I started moving connections around, still no so I JUMPED THE SOLINOID AND STARTED IT, i LET IT RUN FOR A WHILE THEN TURNED IT OFF WITH THE KEY.  sorry , hit the cap lock. after moving around some wires and connections it still would not key start so I jumped it again let it run for awhile then when I   turned  the key off it kept running so I pulled the whole wire plug off the back of the ignition switch , still nothing, I kept pulling wire connectors off but it kept running. had to choke it to kill it .I broke it fixing  it

                                                                                                                                             thanks  skip

Here is a 1979 wiring diagram you can download.

Be careful. The ignition magneto is self-powered. The ignition wire simply grounds the magneto to shut the engine OFF. When that wire is not connected the engine should run. Make absolutely sure you do not introduce any battery voltage into the ignition wire as that releases the magic magneto smoke.

Here is where it gets tricky. The tractor uses a battery style ignition switch to control the kill relay which controls the magneto ignition wire. Power to the relay opens the contacts so the magneto wire is not grounded and the engine runs.

If you are not sure on this ask more questions.

The mag kill relay should look similar to the one circled on this C-111

thank you gwest and m. bailey for your quick replys,

Does the fact that the first time I jumped the solinoid and let the tractor run for a while that it would turn off with the key and then later when I tried to start it by jumping across all  three terminals( 2 large posts and 1 small post )that I  probably fried something because then it would not turn off with the key. usually when I screw up because of ignorance it usually is expensive.it's a talent .

thank you in advance for your help     zekepiks     ( Skip)

If you could not shut it off is a good thing. At least the ignition is still OK. Your ignition switch in RUN and START positions sends power to the kill relay coil which opens the contacts that control the ignition ground wire. When the relay contacts are open the engine runs. When the relay contacts are closed the engine stops.

Jumping the starter terminals should not affect the ignition circuits. Possibly the relay has failed or the ignition wire from the engine is not connected to the relay.
