Head gasket replacement

Recommended Posts

motor12

A couple of days ago I noticed the head gasket weeping on my 854. I picked up a new gasket and installed it today. For the K181 the manual states torque to 15 to 20 ft lbs. I did that, then ran engine to warm up the head. Shut it down let it cool then re torqued to specs. Am I good or will I need a second heat and cool cycle and re torque again. Thanks

It wouldn't hurt to check it again and periodically after that. My grandsons K181 seems need that every so often. It's the only one I've had the issue with.

Doesn't hurt to check ... I put one on my K181 6 years ago and it never needed Retorquing

An old gasket can leak if the head is removed and the gasket is reused.  I would almost bet 8 out of 10 times this can occur.  For me that is...
