Mini Gas Tank

Recommended Posts

boovuc

After emptying the muck, (I was being nice calling it that), and rinsing three times with kerosene, I now have the water and emulsified gear oil out of the tranny of the 50 dollar 310-8.

I had to improvise a gas tank to run the tractor with the kerosene in the rear so I came up with a mini gas tank. Yes.....that is an Eaton 700 oil reservoir and it worked great!  :)

I thought I had thrown that little reservoir away but it was in yet another box of parts I had on a shelf. (I'm beginning to wonder about the clutter my fiance reminds about once a week)!  :banghead:

Clutter does come in handy doesn't it.  I guess that's why we have so much.  :laughing-rolling:

The tranny oil is 'bout as ugly as I've seen. Someone didn't care one ioda!

Taking exception to Geno's "clutter." How dare he call all the spare, engineered, parts 'n things "clutter."

I prefer to call all the boxes of stuff "reserve", "inventory" or "on hand" thingys or whatchamacallits.   :laughing-rofl:

It would help to know what whatchamacallits I had in reserve. I actually promised this very Eaton 700 reservoir to a member here over a year ago for free then couldn't find it. I thought It got tossed. Glad it didn't but I also didn't like making a promise I couldn't keep.  :banghead:

I was hoping to get another kerosene flush of the transmission then fill it with some of my cheaper 85-90w gear oil but this damn ice age from the north roared in. Hopefully we will get back into the 50's sometime before the end of November. I just didn't want that tranny out in the cold with that much water in the oil. I think I am going to try to make it look a tad better and use it. I love these 310's and 312's.

As near as I could find out, the tractor had a pretty cushy and well maintained like in it's first 19 years. Since about 2004 or so, it was kept outside. The oil was changed but not much else was done. When I had the front jacked up to drain my kero flushes, I tried moving the front wheels by hand. The whole steering system is real tight. When I threw grease in the front spindles, I pushed water from the top until I got good grease coming out but it is still very tight. Almost not driveable. I also re-greased the fan gear and the center zerk fitting on the middle of the front axle to no avail.
