Retired Wrencher 5,848 #1 Posted November 1, 2014 I have had this for a while now. It never had spark. So over time I cleaned every thing under the flywheel. There was a bunch of grease on all contacts. I cleaned every thing. I put new coil and condenser as they where original. Fixed all wires. I was ready to see if this fix the problem, turned the key smoke came out under the fly wheel. So after talking with some mechanic's at work they all said to eliminate the charging coils wires as this tractor was left out side a lot. so I changed the coil and condenser again still nothing I have a 657 I even swop out the rectifiers. The only thing I did not change was the points I sanded them down real well with no gap in the sun. these new points from china look so cheap. The only time the spark check light comes on is when I turn the key off. Any Ideas?????? Gary B............. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,534 #2 Posted November 1, 2014 The first thing that comes to mind is the ignition switch is wrong. Should be for magneto ignition and the original switch was part number 7572. You are simulating the points closing once by grounding the ignition wire with the ignition switch. If that is the case you have the correct style of switch. Garry thanks Gwest Craig found some Tecky points On E-bay I will give that a try. and the switch is new with the screw type for contacts and it does have a mag terminal or M. But will recheck. this just a tractor I am fooling around with and not in good shape.I thought I needed the trany for the 606 but that turned out ok. Thanks for the help. Garry Gwest I just switch over switches from my 657 that I know works fine. still nothing. I did put in the dash board because it would not fit in the key hole. So I guess I will try the points.????? Retired Wrencher 5,848 #6 Posted November 9, 2014 AS of today I think I know what the problem is on the Tecky/6 I think it is the flywheel being scored and the lack of magnetism. A friend gave a H60 engine with spark so I am switching this over to a non charging engine. I can even put on a snow blower starter needed be Or just charge the battery once in a while.
