JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,487 #26 Posted November 1, 2014 Fellas,,,,,,,, update,,,,,, no pictures yet. Pouring rain to beat the band. I mean torrential rain. If it slows down a bit,,,,, me and my camera will be on the run. Killing some time looking for a engine for it. Like looking for a toothpick in a pile of hay. Glenn hey,,,,,,,,, shout out,,,,,,,, anyone getting snow today?
JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,487 #27 Posted November 1, 2014 In the event of not being able to find a good H60,,,,,, could you put in a H50 or H70? I found a few of those,,, the H70 is sweet,,,, but not sure of shaft sizes and everything else. What a quandry to be in,,, but a good one. Glenn

RMCIII 838 #29 Posted November 1, 2014 Glenn - you probably don't want to spend the time on it. Not really woth mcuh, honest! Why would you pay $50.00 for something not running? It probably has more tricks, than treats, associated with it...... BTW, where did you say this place was??? Nice score Glenn! Rob
Ken B 3,116 #30 Posted November 1, 2014 You can put the H70 in there and make it work with little effort I think the H70 has a 3/4 inch shaft while the original HH60 had a 1 inch. Its not going to be easy finding an HH60 that is ready to be put in without first rebuilding it but someone here might have one. IMO the 500 you found is worth doing right..

JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,487 #34 Posted November 2, 2014 WOW! I hope you brought that home with you Glenn. No Craig. I did not. Homeowner was not home. There are things I see. Front tires...loose air Seat ripped Belt guard cut Engine shot Needs a lot of work. Seems the top of the tower where the hood latches has metal notched out? Wth....... I am not as good as most of you re doing these. Do I like it..yes Not sure if I will get it. Have to think about it. I like the deck the best. Am working on the 520 now to. How much can I juggle don't know. Maybe I get it..maybe not. Glenn
JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,487 #35 Posted November 2, 2014 A side story..true. my brother goes with me. We get a coffee. Run into a guy he has a 310-8 in his truck. He just bought it for a hundred bucks. Clean clean mint mint...then I go look at the pile of junk which needs everything. Turned me off. Glenn

JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,487 #37 Posted November 2, 2014 Is that notch (cut out) in the tower supposed to be like that? Glenn
Geno 1,928 #38 Posted November 2, 2014 Looks like wear from the hood latch rod. You better pick that thing up for what it costs, the deck is worth more than that, so is the rear end, as well as just a few parts off of it. If you decide you don't want to fool with it I'll give you more than that for it the next time I'm up there.
ranger 1,652 #39 Posted November 2, 2014 (edited) Found my 1989 312-8 800 hrs on the clock at one of our customers, a stud farm when I was there to repair thier road sweeper. It stood next to the scrap heap, it would not start so they scrapped it. The company could not sell it to me but could give it to me as scrap. The problem turned out to be a perished fuel line. Doug. JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,487 #41 Posted November 2, 2014 You need to save it even if you just buy it and sell at least it will go to a wheel horse person and maybe have a better life slammer,,,,, your right. Allready had a few inquiring on it. I guess I can drag it out of the yard with my 854. My brother and I are hatching a plan. He said the same thing, that if I didnt restore it,,,, maybe someone else would want to do it up. Glenn

JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,487 #44 Posted November 2, 2014 Oh, by the way. I guess you fellas dont see to much that bothers you about the condition. I have been reading on the 500 specials all day long. Doing it right, to me,,,, as Ken pointed out. Find that elusive tecumseh HH60. Thats the correct heart for this one. Now that will take some doing. would not let it go to the boneyard. Its to "special" on a side note, on my 520,,, got that baby scrubbed up good. Took Martins advice on how and what to use, new decals coming from Terry. All fluids get changed this week to. Its looking good. Glenn
