JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,487 #1 Posted October 31, 2014 Just got back from going around with the kids trick and treating. We go up to a house..I spot red way way way back in the corner of the property. Said to my son mike...geez. wonder if that's a wheel horse. Next thing I know Mike is waving to me from the steps. Hey dad..it is. The homeowner wants to get rid of it. My wife sighs..it go flying up to meet the guy....he bought it about 5 years ago. He said it had a diferant engine in it. Hood don't close all the way. One tire in front half flat. Just stopped running couple weeks back. The gent says tell ya what....for 50 bucks you can have it. If no rain tomorrow I will get more pics...just took one and left. Kids were anxious to get back to Halloween stuff. What do you guys think. The metal looked ok. Deck looked super....can I find a motor..think it's worth a follow up? Let's hear advice.. will post more pictures maybe tomorrow. Ty
SPINJIM 1,978 #2 Posted October 31, 2014 No, not worth the trouble. What's the address? That's the best 'trick or treat' you've probably had since you were 10 years old. Jim
Desko 552 #3 Posted October 31, 2014 Original motor was a 5 hp tecky (I think 5 hp) might be able to get one off flebay. Looks really clean.
JustinW.73 224 #4 Posted October 31, 2014 I think you should get the original Kohler back in it. Great find.
Geno 1,928 #5 Posted October 31, 2014 I gotta hang around you more Glenn. It's a 68 done up for the Indy 500 that year. It's a keeper, supposed to have a 6HP Tecky on it, I have one too. I guess I need to start trick or treating now.

JustinW.73 224 #11 Posted November 1, 2014 The original motor is long gone. Thanks........ Glenn No no no. I meant the original type of engine that would have gone in it. (5 hp techumseh)
JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,487 #12 Posted November 1, 2014 We seem to have 2 differant comments. Is the original engine for this tractor the 5hp or 6hp tecumseh? Also,,,,,, who can post a few pictures of the correct engine. Our wheel horse manuals section its hard for me to judge looking at exploded view pictures. I scanned e / flea bay real quick. There are a couple, 2, not sure if they are correct. Just trying to do a little research before I go back for a second look to commit. Never hurts to investigate. thanks guys, your enthusiasm was over the top on this one,,,,,,,,,, me to......... just dont call me Gleno for Geno........lol
slammer302 2,154 #13 Posted November 1, 2014 Here is a pic of a 5hp teckyand this is a 6hp
slammer302 2,154 #14 Posted November 1, 2014 They look the same I believe there is little difference in size between 6&5 HP just the internals are different
slammer302 2,154 #15 Posted November 1, 2014 If your not worried about going back original a Kohler 8hp or 7hp would fit in there nicely and you would have all the power you need for mowing I have a couple blocks that would be good rebuilders
Ken B 3,116 #16 Posted November 1, 2014 Correct engine is a 6hp Techy. HH60. I have been looking for one of these tractors for a long time now. Thanks for finding it for me!
Forest Road 594 #17 Posted November 1, 2014 I found a 310-8 with a good Magnum a few years back. $50!!! Sold the deck for a few hundred. Should've kept the motor! But dang that was one neglected tractor. Good luck with her.

Just for clarification, there was no such thing as a 5HP Tecky ever put on any ever made, ever. In 60, 61 + 62 they had a Tecky 5.5HP engine, in 63 and up they went to a 6HP until 68 (the year yours is).
