Guest fireman #1 Posted October 14, 2008 The wife is a moderator on a free cycle forum and calls me at work yesterday and says that someone two towns over is giving away a Wheel Horse tractor . I tell her to see if it's still available and low and behold it was. Went to see it today. It's a C-81 with a replacement Kohler. Mower deck looks almost new. Info on the tag says: 91-08K801 02176 8157 Just checked the Toro site. It looks like it's a 1979. :horseplay: :horseplay:

Guest fireman #8 Posted October 14, 2008 Thanks guys. Actually the sheet metal is perfect. Not even a ding! Just some surface rust. The paint is actually better than in the pictures. I think some elbow grease and an oil change, new battery and carb cleaner it should fire right up. It has been stored inside a shed since last used which was over ten years ago until this week. Now I just need to find a plow blade and frame and I will all set for the winter. P.S. The wife says I "owe" her  .
Guest fireman #10 Posted October 14, 2008 Wallfish, I still would rather have the RJ (wanna trade ). Do you have plans for the backhoe you built? I used to have a 74' D200 with the Ark 550 Loader and the original Brantley Backhoe! I kick myself for selling it :imstupid: . I would like to build a miniature version for C-81. Have any close ups of the backhoe?
wallfish 18,091 #11 Posted October 15, 2008 I think I like the little RJ better LOL The hoe was used today to dig for a retaining wall. Works great. I can add some pics in the gallery, is there something specific you want to see?
linen beige 15 #12 Posted October 15, 2008 Just finding a logo seat in such good shape is a feat! Not to mention the rest of the tractor! Sounds like the wife was a great find too! :banghead:
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,604 #13 Posted October 15, 2008 It is a 1979. Nice find. :banghead:
Guest fireman #14 Posted October 16, 2008 Well I got it home and gave it it's first bath and degrease. The previous owner said he was having a hard time getting it started and was fed-up with it. I put on my jump box and hit the ignition. Turned over but wouldn't even cough. Pulled the plug. It was all carboned up. Cleaned that up and checked the air filter. It was plugged solid with dirt. Couldn't see any light through it. Left the air filter off and re-installed the plug. Low and behold she fired right up . Let her idol for awhile than hit the throttle. She roared and ran nice and smooth  . Engaged the mower deck and that worked fine. Shifted into first and took right off. Pedal is a little high but I can adjust that. Tread is good but the side walls are cracked so I guess i'll order some new sneakers for it today. Now just to find a plow for it (anyone close to CT got one? ).
