19richie66 16,971 #1 Posted October 23, 2014 I have the 418-A apart for fuel tank repair and noticed when I took the seat stand/tank mount off I could see down in the tranny where the two bolts go. Do you just use teflon tape on the bolts to seal it up when its reassembled or is there a rubber washer of some sort that goes there? Its a easy place for water to get in. Thanks for any info. dennist 139 #2 Posted October 23, 2014 Something does not sound right, but I would not suggest any Teflon tape.... That could get into your pump and then cause you trouble. Any pics of where you can see in the tranny?
pacer 3,160 #3 Posted October 23, 2014 (edited) I'm working on mine now and I cant feature water getting in past those threads, just as it doesnt on the several other bolts on the trannny, or, any of the many on the engine, long as theyre tight. The plastic fill pipe is right alongside there and ...well, its plastic. Removing one of those to add fluid/oil to the tranny sure does simplify getting it to flow. dennist 139 #6 Posted October 23, 2014 I used a couple of a small copper washers Was you able to see in yours also? I have never seen one like that....
squonk 39,011 #7 Posted October 23, 2014 Yes. And you remove 1 when filling trans to help vent the air out
dennist 139 #8 Posted October 23, 2014 Yes, you remove one for air to vent when filling with oil, but I still do not know how you can see in tranny with the bolt in place. The threads are tight and the head sticks out beyond that.
Desko 552 #9 Posted October 24, 2014 Dennis I don't think he ment he had the bolts in as he said he took the mounts off but I put silicone on mine when I put them back in.
dennist 139 #10 Posted October 24, 2014 Ok...LOL! I was wondering how they could see or water would be getting in. Yes with the bolts out I too can see in the tranny, sorry for the confusion.
19richie66 16,971 #11 Posted October 24, 2014 Yes I have the mount off as you have in the photos. I threaded the bolts back in till I can reassemble it. I think the washers will be my best bet and maybe a LIGHT smearing of silicone. Thanks guys for all the replys. Just making sure I wasnt seeing things. shallowwatersailor 3,213 #14 Posted October 24, 2014 (edited) Teflon rope/string that is used for packing valves might work. It would be on the sealing portion of the bolt head. That way there is no contamination and it should provide piece-of-mind. I personally don't think that it is an issue unless the tractor is left outside and water is allowed to collect on the seat pan. smoreau 658 #16 Posted October 25, 2014 None of the holes on a eaton 1100 are exposed to the inside of the trans. You can use what ever you like. It will never get into the fluid
Catmanii 36 #17 Posted October 30, 2014 Mine sit outside and I use nothing on the bolts and they don't leak.
