thehorse 221 #1 Posted October 18, 2014 New hydro owner has a question. On my 416-h when going from forward to "neutral" or especially from reverse to "neutral" the tractor stops very hard and with a jerk. Is this normal and if not, is there some remedy? I have side panels off now and can remove seat pan to look again, but everything looks good to my ignorant eye.
JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,498 #2 Posted October 18, 2014 I am by far no hydro expert at all. But from what I have been reading on your threads about your trans / hydro I think you have real problems. I will be following this topic to learn and wish you the best with it. Things just dont sound good with it. Imho. Glenn
bmsgaffer 2,053 #3 Posted October 18, 2014 You should probably keep all of your related questions in one thread. People can help more if they know your whole story. Its hard to follow if you post the same question in many different places. For example: You already asked this question in another thread and I stated to check again once you had braced your frame as your transmission mount was cracked. Have you done this? I believe there were quite a few others that posted helpful suggestions. Have you tested all of them?
bmsgaffer 2,053 #4 Posted October 18, 2014 (edited) You need to take the pan off and the panels off over the tunnel, jack the back end up so you arent chasing the tractor around and follow the suggestions already posted here by other members to readjust your linkages. Is the lever smooth when operating (you may have already answered this, i cant remember). If not, you will need to spray some oil on all of the joints. Make sure you dont spray it on the friction washer on the cam plate, but you may need to loosen all the other joints and pivots. JackC 617 #5 Posted October 18, 2014 (edited) Jerky is not normal. A few of my Eaton hydros are real jerky but most are smooth. I have not investigated to see why the jerky ones are that way. Hydro operation is a very broad topic. Is it possible to change the title of the thread to "Jerky Hydro" or start a new "Jerky Hydro" thread under Transmissions? thehorse 221 #6 Posted October 18, 2014 I adjusted the linkage and things smoothed out considerably! It's ready to blow snow! Happy with the new horse. Cleaned up nice. Put Paul's bracket on and a little paint where it was needed. I'll post pics of the wheel weights tomorrow. Primed and waiting for paint. 65 lbs each and the hubcaps cleaned up very nice...both will end up on classifides. Not a fan of the hubcap.
JackC 617 #7 Posted October 19, 2014 Good to hear that just adjusting the linkage smoothed things out.
bmsgaffer 2,053 #8 Posted October 20, 2014 (edited) One other thing to note or to check for: On the C-165 I got the cam plate had worn out so there was considerable slop between the follower and the plate. If you run into these issues again and cant work it out you may need to replace it with a less worn plate and follower. Glad to hear the linkages helped! thehorse 221 #9 Posted October 20, 2014 Ok...now after working on the linkage, forward is pretty fast and reverse is very slow. Does the cam need adjusted?
bmsgaffer 2,053 #10 Posted October 20, 2014 The nut on top of the cam follower can be loosened and twisted (its not round) to adjust the forward/reverse rates. While your in there, check to make sure that the cam doesn't wobble back and forth a lot on the follower. They are fairly tight when new. I cant tell you exactly how much movement there is because i havent dug into mine for a while.
