Rob R 977 #1 Posted October 16, 2014 Have K321 on a GT 14 with a small oil leak seemingly coming from the shaft (shroud side) of the engine, has anyone else experienced this and how difficult is this to repair..... assume that oil seal is bad, hoping I can accomplish replacement w/o removing the engine? skrusins 128 #11 Posted October 16, 2014 I would clean everything really good first because the flywheel sucks and pushes oil from other areas like the valve cover, braether tube etc. Thats what I would do before tearing it all apart. Rob R 977 #13 Posted October 17, 2014 Going to get at the oil leak soon, I just picked-up this baby from NJ today..... many small things to fix besides the oil link .... typical due to lack of maintenance..... she doesn't shut off when key is turned-off assume this is the switch? Does this have a motor kill tab on the switch which goes to the coil? If yes will trace the circuit tomorrow or Sunday. Rob R 977 #15 Posted October 24, 2014 Okay so today was the day..... Repaired the lights, electro magnet implement drive, refastened the solenoid, replace bad connectors and got the alternator charging. My good friend Ed Stoller came over and found where he thinks the oil leak is coming from.... in about ten seconds it appears to him that the oil is coming from the bottom of the fuel pump the more I look now the more I think he is correct..... question to my G14 experts...... is this an indication that the pump is N/G or does it just need a new gasket??? Thanks! p.s. I assume the best way to get at this puppy is to take the front end and gas tank off.... doesn't look like too much of a hassle? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
oldredrider 2,553 #16 Posted October 24, 2014 An oil leak at the fuel pump indicates it needs a new mating gasket. Unless you are really small and nimble, removing the gas tank and heat shield is all you need to remove to gain access. Since you have had it running, your fuel pump is good and doesn't need replacing. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Rob R 977 #17 Posted October 25, 2014 Progress Update: Removed all the Tin's today, seat and replaced the Hydraulic Lift pin with the correct pin last owner jammed a carriage bolt in the hole and bent it over.... had to cut it out with a cut-off tool.... Man this GT 14 is built like a tank ..... that done I proceeded to take off the front guard disconnected the lights and removed the nuts from the bottom and top of the front cast iron shroud but I could not get the shroud to come off took the spring holding device off the tank and the metal guard (heat shield) off but still cannot get the shroud off...... Question do you have to remove the tank frame bolts for the shroud to come Off.... Help.......! Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Rob R 977 #18 Posted November 6, 2014 Update, the new Kohler OEM Fuel Pump gasket fixed the engine oil leak and I have gotten the GT 14 to a point where she is a going to stay until spring, running well and will be easy to get her ready for mowing next spring... pics attached. You will be amazed at the pushing power of that beast.
