grinchsr 647 #1 Posted October 14, 2014 I have a 314H model-73403 and need to know what the trick is to remove the plastic knob. I see a pin sticking out the bottom of the knob but not enough to grab with a tool. I started to drive a punch into the hole and only managed to bend the shaft the knob fits on. Any ideas?????? gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,451 #2 Posted October 14, 2014 That is a 3/32" x 5/8" spiral pin. You need to support the knob with a heavy object while you drive the pin out. A 2-person job. Garry
cleat 7,249 #3 Posted October 14, 2014 And once the pin is out you can use a hairpin clip instead of the roll pin. That way you just pull the pin to remove the knob. I did this on both of my 520's and it works great. Cleat
daveoman1966 3,839 #4 Posted October 14, 2014 If you don't have a Roll Pin Punch Set..... buy one. They have a special tip...not flat like a nail punch. Craftsman has a $20 5-pc set and for $25 they have the same as a long-reach set. I bought these a few years ago and they are indispensible. You can, of course, spend a C note or more for a top-line set, but these haven't failed me yet.
Forest Road 594 #5 Posted October 14, 2014 Start with some penetrating oil. Then go for the Roll pin punch. I had one that had to be cut off. Good luck.

Forest Road 594 #7 Posted October 19, 2014 It's a delicate operation. Better go with the 4lb mallet.
