flyovrcntry 115 #1 Posted October 13, 2014 The things you think of at 3 in the morning when you just can't sleep. What do you have as the lift link on your blade for the snow? Last year I had a solid lift link and it seemed to push more rock with the snow than the chain I have used before. Also, do you prefer shoes or no shoes on the blade when plowing snow? Tankman 3,523 #4 Posted October 13, 2014 Solid link the dial-a-height works for me. Now I'll have to wait 'n see, no dial on the Work Horse. 😕
WH nut 553 #5 Posted October 13, 2014 I have a 54in underbody blade that I use with a chain. If I need more down pressure I just put my feet on it and push down. Works really well without pressure for the most part.
Shuboxlover 480 #6 Posted October 13, 2014 I have used both, I have concrete driveways and I prefer a chain...the solid lift bar wears away the cutting edge too fast. While it is nice to peel up packed snow/ice, I still much prefer the chain.
oldlineman 1,534 #7 Posted October 13, 2014 chain and no socks thats the way I have done it for 35 years me and my c-101 of course.
ericj 1,579 #8 Posted October 13, 2014 my 520's that i put the plows on yesterday, i use a lift chain for. in fact i just replaced 1 yesterday because the p o used a repair link to fix the broken chain and every so often when plowing, it would get caught and wouldn't go up or down. now that, that problem is solved all should be good. i also have a 75 C120 auto that has the solid bar in the lift. i never take the plow of it. when i need to plow dirt i use it . just remembered there is a picture of it in my gallery eric j
dcrage 630 #9 Posted October 13, 2014 No socks, no shoes. I thought our favorite dinosaur was all in with "shoes but no socks" when plowing snow
C-85 750 #10 Posted October 13, 2014 I use the solid bar and no chain. I have a dirt driveway and I haven't seen any difference using the bar, with the exception of being able to apply some down pressure when I wanted to scrape some ice and snow or some dirt work. I have a manual lift so applying down pressure is tricky because I've recently been diagnosed with carpel tunnel and basil thumb join arthritis, so I may be doing less of that now.
