ronhatch 406 #1 Posted October 12, 2014 My son just got a really great deal on a 1984 GT 1800 Work Horse with a Hydro. I'm a little worried about the way the control handle for the hydro is lacking any kind of detents/ stops. I think it could be down right dangerous, especially with someone that isn't very careful to start with. Has anyone made and installed some kind of nuetral/forward/reverse detent system that controls the shift lever? Pictures are worth a thousand words. Thanks, Ron
varosd 1,185 #2 Posted October 12, 2014 Ron, a Friction washer controls where the motion control lever stays. (back under the seat) Do you mean it wont stay where its placed? meaning it creeps back unless you keep pushing it forward? or do you mean that the brake pedal, when pushed down, does not return the motion control lever back to neutral? ronhatch 406 #3 Posted October 12, 2014 (edited) Don, Thanks for the reply. I took the seat pan off this morning after posting my question and found the friction washer set up. Once again I put the cart in front of the horse. I tightnen it up and adjusted the control rod so it wouldn't creap now too. I also backed up that little piece of spring steel that presses against the lever with a piece of hard rubber to give it a little more positive feel when you're in nuetral. So that problem is fixed. Now I noticed a 'lag' in the hydro unit. I can feel it after I come down a small incline. It slows down momentarialy and then picks up speed again. Maybe bad keys in the hubs? dcrage 630 #5 Posted October 12, 2014 "Now I noticed a 'lag' in the hydro unit. I can feel it after I come down a small incline. It slows down momentarialy and then picks up speed again." This is a common question and I been watching for a definitive answer for several years and haven't seen one yet -- From watching these kinds of topics/questions I know that there are lots of other hydrostatic Wheel Horses that do the same thing in use out there
varosd 1,185 #6 Posted October 12, 2014 I'm sure the Fluid Dynamics Engineers will chime. but mine does the same. as long as its not slowing down more and more as the hydro get good and warm, you should be fine of course change fluids and filter etc. working on my work horse too! ronhatch 406 #7 Posted October 12, 2014 One last question...I hope! Which clutch pulley is used for driving the deck? The PO had it on the outside/smaller pulley. I moved it to the inside/larger one so it speeds up the deck. Is that right? Why are there 2 pulleys on the clutch? Thanks for the help! Ron

Ron Ron the deck should run off the inside pulley as you now have it. The outer pulley is used for other implements.
