Ken B 3,189 #1 Posted October 9, 2014 So... it has been less than a week since my brother and i pulled off our trade of my C-161 for his 417-8. Today I was SUPPOSED to be just sneakin out of work for an hour or so to take a look at a 520 Steve might be puting on the block and to check out THE BARN. Little did I know that a Block Buster was about to take place. Here is a little history on what a Block Buster is according to my brother and myself. It is when there is a creative swap with MANYplayers involved to even things up. I walked away with a 520 and a nice 1958 18 hp Johnson.. Steve got himself a MINT 1957 18 hp Evinrude, a very nice 42 inch rear discharge deck, some outboard repair work on two of his outboards and a little cash on top.. (I hope I haven't forgotten any details?) Keep in mind we put this all together in less than 15 minutes! Now that is how its done! The 520 I walked away with is on the right less the deck and leaf vac that Steve is keeping. Its funny because the 520 on the left was mine that Steve got in our very first Block Buster deal. I have wanted another 520 since giving that one up, nothing can push the snow like a 520.. This 520 will probably get a nice worker refurb..

When you come over tomorrow we will swap out the rear tires oh and I forgot something.... the cup holder does not go with the 520 ... You forgot that you scored a few sets of rear skins too !! stevebo-(Moderator) 8,527 #12 Posted October 10, 2014 So Ken came over today and picked up his new 520. I got the restored Evinrude 18 and 42 inch mower deck. I did not take pics of the deck but it is a rear discharge and really nice for sure. Here is the 18 mounted on my 55' Crestliner. It looks really nice on that boat for sure.
boovuc 1,090 #13 Posted October 10, 2014 Steve, Ken, I still don't know what tractor your going to repower with those outboards. But wouldn't hauling around a 55 gallon drum of water to cool them make the rear end to heavy. Unless you intend to hook it up to a front end loader! If you drop it over and put the outboard on it's side with the lower unit and prop facing like the PTO's are on a "standard" WH, you would have a rear-end model. You still need the 55 gallon drum of water up front.
Geno 1,929 #14 Posted October 11, 2014 Now that is one awesome boat!
Ken B 3,189 #15 Posted October 11, 2014 I dragged the 520 home yesterday and imediately started cleaning it. After a few hours of Purple Power it is now pretty clean. All I plan on doing with this one is a repaint of all tractor and engine tins, some new decals and I'm gonna call it done. The rims cleaned up real well and they don't need to be repainted, that is some serious time savings right there. I will use this tractor as an all around worker cutting grass, pushing snow and maybe even a snow thrower if I can find one reasonably priced. I'm not real familiar with this vintage 520, anyone know how to tighten the tension on the hydro lever on the column as it moves on its own.
Geno 1,929 #16 Posted October 11, 2014 Nice tractor Ken. Check the bolts for the arms under the seat, especially the pivot bolt. I get them pretty clean and snug then use spray silicone on everything under there.
AMC RULES 37,196 #17 Posted October 11, 2014 What year is it Ken... isn't '90 the first year for the column control?
squonk 43,744 #18 Posted October 11, 2014 (edited) Who's gonna own it next?? (Translation: I'm surprised trees grow in CT. Nothing seems to take root there!) Edited October 11, 2014 by squonk

stevebo-(Moderator) 8,527 #21 Posted October 12, 2014 Ken, Looks nice and clean. @Craig- this one has gear reduction steering and the tins are off an 88 or 89. The PO also put an electric pto on it. That tractor runs really strong and I mowed with it this spring and summer.
Ken B 3,189 #22 Posted October 12, 2014 After it gets painted I will be putting one the 88 style decals... I'll replace the Toro sdteering wheel as well.
