854 Brake Knob ???

Recommended Posts

GlenPettit

Can anyone tell or better yet show me a photo of which style of Brake Knob is used on the model 854 tractor ???   I have no idea and can't see it clearly on any of the photos posted that I can finid.

Trying to use our Choke & Throttle knobs, but their inside bore area is much too small for our regular plastic C & T knobs to fit onto, because of the much thicker metal brake lever shown.     What does this brake lever KNOB style look like?

A regular C & T lever is 1/10" thick, 2/10" wide near the end and 3/10" wide at the first step (actual sizes: .091", .190" & .290"), this is the the size I've always found and all our C & T knobs are cast to fit onto, and you can see what happens, - - - need to also know the two actual measurements of this thicker Brake lever so we can make knobs for it.   Thanks in advance,   Glen

Glen, this is what my 854 brake knob looks like. I believe it to be original.

for what its worth...That brake knob on Denny's 854 looks identical to the brake knob on my 64 lawn ranger. :)

Re:  Brake Knob

It's looking like the PO (Previous Owner) may have changed the brake lever to a homemade thicker shaft lever replacement, which caused the knobs to break.

Maybe, just filing the new lever thickness down to 1/10th inch (.091") in the knob area will allow the triangle knob to push on and fit, like originally designed.

A couple of drops of Rubber Cement will keep the knob on.

Thanks again for the instant replies and pictures, Denny and Terry, I really appreciate the help.   "Now we know the whole story."     Glen
