motor12 367 #1 Posted October 9, 2014 Been looking for a 60s Wheel horse project in Texas. Have not located one yet, so I thought some one here could help. Looked at plenty of other small tractors but holding out for a Wheel horse. Seems like they're all north and east. Thanks

groundhog47 347 #5 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) to Dallas area from time to time has a few show on the Craigs list block. Friend pacer Bill picked up two good ones east and above Dallas, Houston area has some on Craigs list also. South west La, iffy and we almost cleaned out North, La. Lotta good Tex folk on WHRS that might be thinning their stable, so keep an eye on Craigs and here in for sale. If you find one way outa reach the Fastenal Co. has very reasonable rates and from time to time you can find a traveler willing to lend a hand. . Just a few miles North of Caddo lake where I take my flat bottom canoe (Cajun Pirogue) and play with the gaters. Try to fish, but it's more fun playing with the critters. I seen the gays listed and know there where some around the Shreveport area. Good to know I'm not the only WH nut close by. motor12 367 #12 Posted October 9, 2014 Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I am willing to travel to get a good Wheel Horse. I have a small collection of antique engines, (hit&miss) and attend engine and tractor shows here in Texas. Last week I was at the Temple engine and tractor show and a fellow exhibitor unloaded his early model Wheel Horse and I was smitten. With the cooler months ahead I am ready to dig into a resto project.
Catmanii 36 #13 Posted October 9, 2014 If you look hard enough, there are a few around. In the Austin area they are most likely VERY thin. I would think better luck in the DFW area, but best selection in the North East. I just make an enjoyable trip out of it and go get what I want. I actually use the ones I have, but one of these days would like to get one of the older models and do a total restore. Another point is that when you do find one in Texas the asking price is usually high. They are much less expensive up North. Just something to keep in mind. Either way have fun doing it. That's the important part.

groundhog47 347 #16 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) Thanks for the warm welcome guys. Did you get the guys name with WH, mita been specialwheelhorse Jim. Guy on left, by trailer, pacer Bill, center specialwheelhorse Jim and his tractor, and groundhog47 Gerry on right during last EasT Tex tractor show. Bill has a growing herd of heavy duties, Jim has a massive herd, and I have 2 workers and 1 in progress. I for sure will keep you in mind for a prospective buy, and if you want some roller (no engine) to partial roller (front or rear missing) there is a guy in Many that may still have some left. I am sure he still has the early 60's on (all there) but was burned. Also has 1 of the huge walk behind WH tractors with tiller attached. Bill got 4 or 5 there and I got 1 and a 1/4 ton of parts and implements. Edited October 9, 2014 by groundhog47
