An 857 dimension question

I've had the bug hit!  Years ago my Dad had a 702 and it did amazing things.  A couple of years ago I picked up an 857 that had been rode hard and put away wet.  After running the machine about 15 minutes it threw a rod.  So I put it up.  A few months later and I tried to move it.  No go  The transmission was jambed.  Well the engine had been replaced by some previous owner.  It was a Kohler 10.

Now on to the fun stuff, I found a new Kohler8 and want to install it in my tractor.  Since they probably have different footprints, I have this question.  What is the distance between the center of the engine output shaft to the center of the input shaft of the transmission?   I'm assuming that this is critical so the belt is not too slack when the idler is disengaged and yet tight enough to drive the transmission. Anyone out there with a tape measure?
