Worked my 314-8 hard

I'm usually pretty good to my WH ,we bought a new property with just under 5 acres. Nice size woods that hasn't been groomed forever other than one skinny trail. I was running over 1 inch saplings that were about 7 to 8 ft high. It was hard on my 48 inch deck but nothing broke. The deck belt came off a couple times and the deck got a tree stuck in the blade once. As long as it bent the trees over I kept going.

Was I tampering with destruction? How much will my gear boxes take? I got a more left to do..

As long as your not traming into it ex hi 3rd gear and dumping the clutch then yea but if you take it slow like low 1st-2nd then no just make sure you regularly grease the mower deck spindles and what not. Hope this answers your questions. And lets see some pictures.

Were you cutting 1" saplings with the deck.....or just running them over. I would think cutting them with the deck would be a bit to hard on the blades :scratchead:  .

I would love to see a video of that, I don't think it was made to cut trees.  :laughing-rolling:

How much did you do?  Maybe these things are even tougher than we thought.  :handgestures-thumbsup:

I think you're asking a lot of it...    :twocents-twocents:

can't imagine it would be good for your deck.

The grounds pretty soft so my tractor could knock them over pretty good. But I was cutting lots and lots of them. Kind of a knock em down and mulch. After the were down I would go over in different directions. Turned out great but I was ready for something bad to happen. My 14 yr daughters eyes got big when she came down to the woods to see what I was doing. She said it was awesome!

I was just happy I didn't break anything.

My D-180's 48" will do that, but... man its hard on it! After I ripped the blade/roll pins out of a second deck spindle I figured it was a bit much, I was a nervous wreck anyway    It will handle the young green stuff pretty well, but when I would hit the inevitable dried limb .. OUCH. I finished with a borrowed bush hog, that was several years ago. Now I'll occasionally get out on the edge of the property and get the young growth knocked down -- these horses are pretty tough!

Pretty impressive....might want to locate a junky cheap deck for that kind of work though....hate to see you bust up a good deck.....
