gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,509 #9 Posted October 3, 2014 For some reason your plug will not supply sufficient spark to ignite the fuel with the normal high voltage from the coil. When you increase the spark gap that increases the coil output voltage so the plug fires. Problem with that is the higher voltage may be more than the plug wire insulation or the coil insulation can withstand and it burns a hole in the insulation.
