gardentime 0 #1 Posted October 2, 2014 I have a 1989 414-8 w/ a Kohler M14S engine. Need to remove starter. Loosened top trrough bolt but can not get a wrenck on bottom bolt. Does the oil fill tube need to removed to get access to the bolt? Kohler tech says no. All brackets are removed. I'm stumped. Can't believe it.
km3h 543 #2 Posted October 3, 2014 I just looked at the Kohler book on that engine and can find no description on how to remove the starter. If removal of the dip tube will give you better access to that bolt, then by all means remove it. All you have to do is unbolt it and give it a pull and the dip stick tube will pop right out. Fordiesel69 271 #3 Posted October 3, 2014 You need to remove the dipstick tube. And the gasket will be destroyed so get another one beforehand.
