c160 is messed up again

Recommended Posts

BairleaFarm

The c160 drive pulley came loose again :banghead: I will be putting new set screws in it with locktite this time. In the 15min i test drove it after putting the starter on it the inside of the drive belt wos tore up. Im hoping that pulley moving was the cause. Maybe hitting that metal piece inside the shield. The tractor has potential i feel it.

...and there's another reason to use OEM belts, especially for drive belts.

David, they should be hardened steel, so the bottom one shouldn't get mashed.

By the way, verify that with the set screws loose there is no slop (wobble) and also verify that there is no rotation rotational slop.

If there is you should replace the key at the very least. Probably the pulley too.

Any idea how long it was run loose before you discovered it?

Best of luck :banghead: :USA:

If i only had a dealer near me.

David, you might check out Eastland Power Sports. 1230 Winchester road,Lexington. 859-226-9992. They are a Toro dealer. I've bought some things from them. They do seem to be heading towards sport bikes instead of tractors though. They're just "inside" New Circle rd., right across from Eastland shopping center where Harbor Freight is.

I've had good luck dealing with Central Equipment, 791 Red Mile Road. Lexington. 859-253-2611. They aren't a Toro dealer, but because they run one of the busiest repair shops around, they stock a lot of parts for a lot of machines. One of the parts guys grew up in his dad's Wheel Horse dealership in Lexington (now closed) and will try his best to get you what you need. I recently asked for a set of points for a Kohler K-241 and when I read him the spec # he recognized it as Wheel Horse and nearly talked my leg off. They have about the best prices around too.

I know you may not come to Lexington often, I don't blame you for staying out of the traffic, but it really isn't that far of a drive.

If you don't mind a little drive, Hill's in Bardstown is a Toro dealer that started out as a Wheel Horse place many years ago. I've not been in their shop, but my dad deals with them and seems to be very impressed.

You're closer than I am then! I don't know what their hours are, but I don't think they're open on saturdays.

Central equipment is open from 7A.M. to at least 5 P.M. and until noon on saturday. I need to get in there for a couple small things, I'll ask about belts.

From What ive been told, The John Deere Dealer here in town is a Toro Dealer... our Local (old) WH dealer, sent me down there when I needed to order some parts for my B...

Of Course, If I dont wanna deal with either of them you can always go thru places like PartsTree or Even Directly from Toro..While you have to wait for the parts to get shipped to ya... When YOU get the Money...Order a Spare Set of Common use things, Plug, Belts, Points, Etc Etc etc - I keep Spare Filters, Belt, Hoses, etc etc for all my vehicles, and as soon as I get the spare $$$ Ill do the same thing for the WH... Cause Ill be needing a Drive Belt too, and My Drive Pulley is loose...Still on the shaft okay, but its walking back and forth.

Sry Im Rambling again! Hahaha

David, I checked at Central Equipment this morning. They don't stock Toro and recommended Bevins in G'town over Eastland power sports. They said the difference in price and service would most likely be worth the drive for me. And the drive would be even less for you.

Shes up and going at this point in time. The belt does in deed stop when the parking brake is set. The hydro still acts funny I think. The heads were stripped out a bit which I think may have prevented me from tightening them does. New set screws and we are good to go for the time being.
