Nice Wheel Horse C-100

Recommended Posts

KC9KAS

Went to look at the tractor the fellow called about on Tuesday.

It is a 1975 C-100, and is in perfect shape.

I will show the photos, and you tell me what you think it is worth. I will tell you what he wants for it later!

its pretty clean, I'd say 600 if it runs real nice. Hard to tell if it has original paint on it..

Clean....looks real clean / original in the pics. Just a coat of dirt to preserve it.

My guess 500. Just to guess.

Even in the condition that it appears to be in, I would pay about $450.00. And that's only because it has nice hub caps. I purchased 2 B-100's and didn't pay but $200.00 for the pair.

Probably worth about $600 because of the good condition (if it runs well), but the seller probably wants well over $1000, or you else would have bought it when you went to see it.    Some people think every WH is worth a fortune.

It has been stored inside, always cleaned after use, and waxed 2 times a year. It was bought in 1976 for $3000 by his brother. His brother has all the papers for purchase & maintenance.

It is a beautiful tractor with quick/easy starting engine, no smoke and a quiet deck.

He wanted me to mow with it, and I did....Very nice!

Jim is correct...He wants $1000 for it and said he won't have a problem selling a tractor this nice.

He went to 2 tractor show in the past month and by talking to people at the shows, $1000 is what he came up with!

He asked me what I would pay for it and I didn't want to hurt his feelings or make him mad. I told him I had never bought a machine in this nice of condition and really wansn't looking for this nice of a tractor.

I told him my top money would be $500.

What it really boils down to is how bad you want it and how much he wants to sell it. Now that I know the full story on it I still say 600.00. If it was nicely detailed maybe a little more. You KNOW he kept up on his oil changes etc. It has the nice hub caps and newer looking ag tires, that alone adds some definite value... If your not a hub cap kinda guy then sell them, they are worth an easy 100 bucks to someone. I don't have a ton of money but I'm always willing to pay a little extra for a tractor that comes from an owner (especially an original owner)  that I know took care of it and put some money into it. Location no doubt plays a role on value. Maybe offer him a little more and let him know that you will take excellent care of it and keep it nice, to some people that means a lot.

Just my 2 cents worth...

In the end, it is still a 40 year old tractor. In order for his brother to have paid $3000 for it, it must have come with more than just a deck and hubcaps. I have a dealer ad (see picture attached) from 1974 for a B-100 automatic with deck for $1480.00. Considering that the C-100 was basically a B-100 with lights, I can't see it selling for much more. Asking $1000.00 forty years later is wishful thinking. If it runs good with no engine noises or smoke, minimal rust, no deck spindle noises, and no leaks from engine or transmission, I would make an offer of 25% to 30% of the average original dealer sales price.

1480.00 was a heck of a lot more money in 74 than it is today so to compare 1000 bucks asking price today to 1480.00  new sale price back in 74 might be a little unfair.

Yeah it was according to the interweb $1480 in 1974 equals $7,140.38 in 2014!

Considering the nice seat, ag tires and hub caps are worth about $400, and the tractor being in the original condition it is, I'd say about $800. If you were able to get a decent running C100 with a decent deck  for $200 and wanted to get it to the condition that one is, it would cost you several hundred in time and parts. Of course, as always, it depends how much you want that particular model tractor.

If it was local, and everything was in the condition it appears to be, and if I had a thousand dollars, I'd buy it. That ain't too much in my area.
