Suburban 400 head lights

Recommended Posts

Frankana

I have just purchased my first wheel horse, it is what I believe to be a suburban 400, which I plan to restore. This tractor has an electric start Tecumseh engine (Model H60 75182D), Head lights and rear tail lights, along with an amp guage in the dash. Were the lights options that came with this tractor or were they installed aftermarket? If they were factory options, how rare would these be. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks, Frank

The 400 suburban was powered by a 4 hp Kohler K-91 engine with retractable starter. This engine was mounted in the middle of the tractor, just in front of the shifter lever. It had no amp guage or lights from the factory.

What you describe sounds more like a '63 or later model, as the H60 engine didn't show up until '63. Post some pics if you can, some one here will positively ID it for you.

:USA: The suburban 400 did NOT have an option for headlights. Headlights need electricity and there was no generator on the 400. Post up a couple pics, :omg: and we'll see if we can ID this thing for you. The engine is a replacement, that spec number isn't for any of the round nose wheel horses. :banghead:

Just asking, but didn't the 551 have a 5.5hp lauson, that could have been replaced buy a tec. HH60 would be a straight bolt in, and aftermarket headlights, so maybe a suburban? someone could have drilled for the amp guage, I guess we really need pic's before we can tell at all.

Oh ya :banghead:
