Wishin4a416 2,189 #26 Posted September 17, 2014 The 1142 that I am refreshing does not have the adjustment knob. In fact my 87 312-8 does not have one either. Myself and 3 coworkers bought 4 312-8's from the same dealer the same day. They kept telling me about an adjustment knob as time went on. I said I didn't have one which they didn't believe. But I don't. I have the big axles while I know 2 of theirs don't. I think WH maybe just used parts up at the end of the model year. I dunno. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

By 1985 it was a Dial-A-Hite and optional on some models and standard on others. Posted 2 files with the applications for 1985-1989. If I find more I will edit this post so it is all in one place. I was using the reverse lookup at Toro and that no longer works because they have removed almost all the pre-1970 tractor parts lists. Looks like the Dial-A-Height started in 1963 on most models. Tankman 3,515 #39 Posted September 21, 2014 (edited) Picked up the poor Work Horse just before dark. The Horse hasn't been used in eight years, parked in a barn. At the time the little Stallion did not have any mechanical issues. The owner had health problems, a groundskeeping crew took over while the Horse stayed in the barn till I convinced the owner, "Geeze, I've always wanted a Work Horse. Please, please, please ". The Work Horse was purchased new and, so I'm told, only mowing (one acre) turf. The Redbone (as in Leon Redbone) gave it to me, "Just pick it up." My son, grandson and I did. Original destination was scrap yard. Oh No! Not that! The poor Horsey needs a lovin' home! Here's how she looks, we stopped under gas station lights for this picture, for our "love at first sight". . Tankman 3,515 #43 Posted September 23, 2014 The old Horse is runnin', slight tap or knock. The tap sounds as if under the drive belt guard. The peek-a-boo'll have to wait till later. My son did mow 1/4 acre gently with the 48" SD deck. Sounds great and looks as if it was a replacement. Belts are Kevlar probably Huskee from TSC. Same belts I use, inexpensive and hold up well. Just as soon as the mechanicals are done a visit to redoyourhorse.com; excellent service and quality to boot! Paint, all want to stay with the gray, black, whatever. Any help with the gray paint selection will be appreciated. The '90 520-8 in my stable was sandblasted and Rustoleum Regal Red (rattle cans). Came out great. The deck, I believe, newer than the Work Horse, looks too nice. ID # 78361. With the height adjust, on the left, 48"? The Work Horse ID number, very hard to read, # A1164202 11481.
